CARRY YOUR PANIC BUTTON WITH YOU AS YOU MOVE THROUGH YOUR HOUSE AND ESPECIALLY IN YOUR GARDEN, AT THE POOL, OR LAPA/BRAAI

Dr. Chris de Kock, Independent analyst: crime, violence and crowd behaviour.

There is an increasing tendency of house robberies occurring during daylight hours. The armed suspects drive around in residential areas during the day scouting for open gates and residents and their workers working in the garden. They don’t always necessarily attack through the gates or over the front wall/fence.

There were cases where they saw somebody outside the house, then went around and went through a neighbour’s yard and over the back wall to surprise the person in the front yard.

Given this background it is necessary:
1. to carry your silent panic button (which works) with you at all times when you leave your house. Carry it in such a way that it doesn’t send false signals to your security provider.

2. don’t leave the gates to the street open, except if yourself and/worker is working on the pavement. Whoever is working on the pavement should be especially aware what is happening in the street.

3. always be aware what is happening around you, even in your garden and residence.

4. if you can see the street and you see a suspicious vehicle with multiple occupants looking at you, especially when it passes twice or more times in a very short time, rather enter the house and lock the door and security door.
